Irrigation Canal Lining
Canal lining and protection for agricultural and water-conveyance projects. Geosynthetics Africa coordinates product supply, delivery, installation and documented QA/QC to the agreed project scope. Send your BOQ, drawings and project location for a proposal matched to the specified system.
System Overview
Canal lining and protection for agricultural and water-conveyance projects requires a system selected for the site and its operating conditions. Geomembrane, concrete-lined and geocell-supported solutions have different design and installation requirements. Where TILTEX™ is specified, use its current manufacturer instructions for preparation, joints, hydration and protection.
The starting point is the approved design and the project information: channel geometry, flow conditions, foundation condition, joints, outlets, maintenance access and the specified lining system. We review the material schedule and specification with the project team before confirming products and quantities.
Supply and delivery are planned around the destination, access and construction programme. Product identity, available documentation, packing and route requirements are confirmed in the proposal; stock and mobilisation commitments are project-specific.
Installation and QA/QC are defined in the agreed scope, with inspection hold points and records established before work starts. Independent CQA or specialist testing is included where specified and appointed for the project.
Irrigation Canal Lining — Design-Dependent System Elements

Components Legend
Prepared Canal Subgrade
Prepare and accept the formation, levels and bearing conditions to the approved drawings. Surface preparation and any required ground testing are specified for this particular system.
Geotextile Separation Layer (where specified)
Select the geotextile for the required separation and filtration or protection function. Confirm the exact grade against soil conditions, loading and the project specification.
Tiltex GCCM Roll - Pre-Hydration
Use the specified TILTEX™ grade and current manufacturer instructions. Confirm preparation, joints, hydration, anchorage and protection for the particular channel or slope design.
Design Inputs for Irrigation Canal Lining
Confirm the design inputs: channel geometry, flow conditions, foundation condition, joints, outlets, maintenance access and the specified lining system. The project designer sets the system arrangement and acceptance criteria.
Geomembrane, concrete-lined and geocell-supported solutions have different design and installation requirements. Where TILTEX™ is specified, use its current manufacturer instructions for preparation, joints, hydration and protection.
Confirm interfaces, joints, connections and transitions on the drawings. Adjacent products must be compatible with the selected system; proposed substitutions require designer approval.
Use current manufacturer data for the exact grade and the relevant service conditions. Generic thicknesses, tensile ratings or service-life claims do not establish suitability for every project.
Irrigation Canal Lining Installation & Handover
Before installation, confirm the product and grade, accept the work area and inspect delivered material. Establish storage, handling, layout and protection requirements using the approved method and manufacturer guidance.
Inspect joints, terminations and transitions for the selected canal lining. Geomembrane seam tests apply only where geomembranes are used. For concrete blankets, record product-specific joint and hydration checks. Hydraulic or strength testing is included only where the project specification requires it.
Record installation checks, test results where required, repairs and hold-point releases. Protect completed work until acceptance and compile the agreed traceability and handover records.
Irrigation Canal Lining QA/QC
Approved Design & QA/QC Plan
Confirm the approved drawings, product schedule, method and inspection hold points. Testing and acceptance criteria are agreed before installation.
Product Identity & Traceability
Check manufacturer, product grade, roll or unit identification and the required documentation against the order and approved submittals. Record damage or discrepancies for resolution.
Work-Area Acceptance
Inspect the prepared work area, levels and interfaces against the specified acceptance criteria before placing the system. Required geotechnical verification is completed by the appointed party.
Installation Inspection
Inspect joints, terminations and transitions for the selected canal lining. Geomembrane seam tests apply only where geomembranes are used. For concrete blankets, record product-specific joint and hydration checks. Hydraulic or strength testing is included only where the project specification requires it.
Specified Testing
Apply the test methods and frequencies specified for this system. Specialist or independent testing is provided where required by the project appointment; a method suitable for one material is not automatically suitable for another.
Handover Records
Compile the agreed product identification, inspection records, applicable test results, repairs and as-built information for project handover.
