| About Geogrids & Interlayers

Choose the system by its engineering function. Stabilisation geogrids restrain aggregate in road foundations and working platforms. Soil-reinforcement geogrids provide tensile reinforcement in designed walls, slopes and embankments. Asphalt grids, paving composites and paving fabrics serve the pavement rehabilitation layer. These functions require different design checks and installation methods.

Our range includes Tensar® stabilisation and reinforcement geogrids, Solmax MIRAGRID® reinforcement products, glass fibre asphalt grids and paving interlayers. Send the drawings, ground conditions, loading and specified product grade so we can confirm the appropriate material, current technical documentation, quantities and delivery arrangements. Installation and QA/QC are agreed against the approved design and manufacturer’s guidance.

| Types of Geogrids & Interlayers

Biaxial Geogrids

Grids with ribs in two principal directions, selected for the specified granular-layer function and manufacturer design method. Ground conditions, aggregate and loading determine the system; tensile rating alone does not establish road performance.

Tensar® TriAx® Geogrids

Tensar® TriAx® uses triangular apertures to stabilise designed aggregate layers. Select the grade, layer arrangement and installation requirements using Tensar’s product-specific guidance.

Tensar® InterAx® Geogrids

InterAx® is a distinct Tensar stabilisation family for aggregate layers, trafficked surfaces and foundations. Retain the specified grade and design method; do not infer equivalence from another grid’s nominal tensile strength.

Uniaxial Geogrids

Reinforcement with a primary tensile direction for designed walls, slopes and embankments. Confirm grade, long-term design strength, fill interaction, orientation and connections against the approved design.

Composite Geogrids

Reinforcement combined with a geotextile component. MIRAGRID® PEC uses polyester reinforcement and nonwoven geotextile; confirm the required functions and grade for the selected system.

TechLink Strip Bonded Geogrids

TechLink is a soil-reinforcement grid made with polymeric strips bonded at their crossing points. Use the exact specified grade and manufacturer data for basal reinforcement, walls or other approved structural applications.

TechStrap Polymeric Geostrips

TechStrap uses polyester reinforcement within a polymer sheath for designed reinforced-soil wall systems. Reinforcement length, grade and facing connections are determined by the approved wall design.

Glass Fibre Asphalt Grids

Glass fibre grids are used within specified asphalt reinforcement systems. Confirm the product grade, existing pavement preparation, tack coat and overlay arrangement.

Asphalt Interlayer Composites

Paving composites combine reinforcement with a geotextile component. Their reinforcement, bonding and moisture-barrier functions depend on the selected product and correctly specified installation.

Paving Fabric — SAMI

Bitumen-saturated nonwoven paving fabric, including TechPave, provides a stress-absorbing interlayer and moisture barrier within an approved asphalt-overlay system. Confirm binder application and pavement preparation for the exact product.

| Benefits of using Geogrids & Interlayers

Aggregate Interlock and Confinement

Select stabilisation products using their interaction with the specified aggregate and the manufacturer’s validated design approach.

Project-Specific Design

Assess any change to aggregate thickness through a project-specific design comparison; savings are not a fixed percentage for every site.

Performance Over Soft Subgrades

Ground conditions, drainage, traffic and construction method are considered together before a stabilisation system is selected.

Documented Specification

Match reinforcement and paving interlayers to the approved design and maintenance objectives, with product-specific documentation.

Long-Term Design Strength

For structural reinforcement, use the specified long-term design strength and applicable reductions for creep, installation damage and durability.

| Frequently Asked Questions about Geogrids & Interlayers

How do stabilisation grids and reinforcement grids differ?
Stabilisation grids restrain granular material to improve the behaviour of a designed aggregate layer. Soil-reinforcement grids provide tensile resistance in engineered soil structures. Their design methods and performance data differ; the designer must identify the required function before selecting a product.
Which geogrid or interlayer should I specify?
Provide the application, ground investigation, loads, fill or asphalt specification, drawings and project location. The selected manufacturer’s documentation and the approved design govern grade, orientation, layer arrangement and installation. Brand and grade names are retained throughout procurement and delivery.
Can you supply, deliver and install across Africa?
Geosynthetics Africa coordinates product supply, project delivery, installation and QA/QC within the agreed scope. Quantities, available grades, route, mobilisation and inspection requirements are confirmed for each project. Submit your BOQ and drawings for a project-specific proposal.

| Specifications for Installing Geogrids & Interlayers

Before work starts — Confirm the product and grade against the approved drawings and manufacturer’s installation guidance. Record delivery identification and inspect rolls for damage. Accept the formation and agree the layout, reinforcement direction, overlaps or connections, fill specification and inspection hold points.

Placement — Lay the selected product in the design orientation without folds or damage. Use the project-specified overlaps and connections; stabilisation-grid laps are not a universal connection detail for structural wall reinforcement. Keep construction traffic off exposed material and check placement before covering.

Covering and QA/QC — Place and compact approved fill using the lift thickness and plant restrictions specified for the system and ground conditions. For asphalt interlayers, inspect the existing pavement, surface preparation, tack coat and placement before overlay. Record product identification, inspections, repairs and agreed test results for handover.
