EPDM Geomembrane Liner 1.14mm (45-mil)

Non-reinforced EPDM rubber geomembrane, 1.14mm. Full-width roll, 278.98m². For exposed dams, reservoirs, ponds and tank lining.

465% ultimate elongation (ASTM D412) - conforms to corrugated tanks, earthen embankments and concrete substrates under movement
NSF/ANSI 61 certified for direct potable water contact - no plasticiser migration or leaching
No cracking or crazing at 41,580 kJ/m² UV exposure (ASTM G155) - designed for permanent exposed service
Operational from -45°C to ~80°C - suitable for potable water, process water and warm effluent containment
Large-format rolls up to 278m² - fewer field seams, lower containment risk on large water-retaining structures

Overview

Non-reinforced EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber geomembrane in 1.14mm (45-mil) thickness, supplied in full-width rolls of 9.15m × 30.49m — 278.98m² per roll. Manufactured to ASTM D4637 Type I.

EPDM is a vulcanised thermoset rubber whose UV, ozone and weathering resistance is intrinsic to its molecular structure rather than dependent on additives that migrate over time. With 465% ultimate elongation (ASTM D412), it conforms to irregular substrates, accommodates differential settlement and flexes through daily thermal cycling that causes rigid coatings and lower-elongation thermoplastic liners to crack at joints and corrugations. This makes it the appropriate selection for permanently exposed service: uncovered reservoirs, open ponds, earthen dam embankments, concrete reservoir rehabilitation, and internal lining of corrugated steel and sectional water storage tanks.

Full-width rolls minimise field seams on large water-retaining structures, where seam frequency correlates directly with containment risk. Seams are completed using HP-250 primer with SecurTAPE and rolled to full contact — no thermal welding required, and no naked flame on site.

Not suitable for hydrocarbon, oil or solvent containment, or for lined landfill cells. For those applications, refer to our HDPE geomembrane range.

Supplied as a complete engineered system with bonding adhesive, primer, tape, flashing, sealant and termination hardware. Installed by certified crews across 30+ African countries.

Typical Applications

View all applications
Mining Systems

EPDM is specified for process water storage ponds, mine water reservoirs and exposed containment structures where permanent UV resistance and NSF/ANSI 61 compliance are required - not for primary TSF or heap leach pad containment where HDPE chemical resistance is the governing specification.

Water Containment

The primary EPDM lining application. Specified for drinking water reservoirs, farm dams, irrigation storage ponds, community water storage and municipal infrastructure where potable water certification (NSF/ANSI 61), long-term UV exposure and flexible substrate conformance are design requirements.

Waste & Landfills

EPDM is suitable for leachate holding ponds and wastewater containment where UV exposure is the dominant design condition and fluid chemistry falls within EPDM's resistance envelope. Chemical compatibility must be confirmed against the specific leachate profile before specification - contact our technical team.

Compatible Systems

EPDM Non-Reinforced 1.14mm (45-mil)

Primary stocked grade. Specified for dam lining, reservoir waterproofing, pond containment, and flexible internal lining of corrugated steel and sectional water storage tanks. Supplied in 9.15m × 30.49m and 6.10m × 30.49m rolls, or cut to size. Used with bonding adhesive and SecurTAPE seam system. ASTM D4637 Type I. NSF/ANSI 61.

EPDM Non-Reinforced 1.52mm (60-mil)

Heavy-grade option where additional puncture resistance or ballasted installation is required. Preferred for fully adhered systems on aggressive subgrades and long-term exposed containment with higher mechanical demand. Same chemical and UV performance as 45-mil. Contact us for availability and lead times.

EPDM Fire Retardant (FR) Grade

Specially formulated to inhibit flame spread — meets fire-retardant roofing membrane code requirements. Specified for commercial and industrial roofing where local fire codes mandate FR-rated membranes. Available in 1.14mm and 1.52mm. Contact us for project-specific availability.

Installation Guidance

Standard Method Statement

Subgrade preparation is critical for all EPDM lining systems. The substrate must be smooth, compacted to 95% Proctor, and free of protrusions, sharp edges, organic material and standing water before membrane deployment. On earthen embankments and dam slopes, a needle-punched geotextile protection layer is recommended between the subgrade and membrane where subgrade particle size, root penetration risk or construction traffic presents a puncture hazard.

For fully adhered systems, the substrate and underside of the membrane are coated with Carlisle bonding adhesive and allowed to reach tack before the membrane is rolled into place and broomed down. Seams between adjoining panels are completed using HP-250 primer applied to the splice area in conjunction with SecurTAPE or Factory-Applied Tape. All seams must be rolled with a silicone-bearing hand roller to ensure full contact and eliminate air entrapment. In temperatures below 5°C, the primed splice area must be heated with a hot-air gun before and during tape application.

For corrugated steel and sectional tank lining, the membrane is cut and fitted to the internal tank geometry with wall drapes installed first, followed by the base liner. The liner is terminated at the tank rim using termination bars and fasteners aligned to the bolt pattern of the corrugated rim, sealed with lap sealant and water cut-off mastic at all penetrations and fittings. All pipe penetrations are flashed using pressure-sensitive ELASTOFORM flashing or pressure-sensitive pipe seals. A full system review and material schedule should be completed by our technical team prior to order for tank lining projects.

Quality Assurance & Testing

Field QA/QC Checklist

  • Subgrade Acceptance: Subgrade signed off before deployment: smooth, compacted, free of stones, roots and protrusions, and no standing water or desiccation cracks.
  • Material Conformance: Sheet certificates checked against GRI-GM21 (EPDM) and the project specification.
  • Seam Preparation: Seam areas cleaned and primed; seam tape or splice applied to the manufacturer's procedure and rolled down.
  • Seam Inspection: 100% of seams probed and visually inspected; vacuum box testing where accessible (ASTM D4437).
  • Penetrations & Details: Pipe boots, corners and anchor trench details completed with factory or field-fabricated details to the manufacturer's guide.
