Coastal Protection
Geotextile sand-container systems and sediment-control measures for coastal works. Geosynthetics Africa coordinates product supply, delivery, installation and documented QA/QC to the agreed project scope. Send your BOQ, drawings and project location for a proposal matched to the specified system.
System Overview
Geotextile sand-container systems and sediment-control measures for coastal works requires a system selected for the site and its operating conditions. Sand containers form part of a designed coastal-protection structure. Silt curtains control suspended sediment during works; they are not a substitute for a structural shoreline-protection design. Product class and installation conditions must be confirmed.
The starting point is the approved design and the project information: waves, currents, water depth, foundation and scour, fill material, installation method, anchorage and environmental requirements. We review the material schedule and specification with the project team before confirming products and quantities.
Supply and delivery are planned around the destination, access and construction programme. Product identity, available documentation, packing and route requirements are confirmed in the proposal; stock and mobilisation commitments are project-specific.
Installation and QA/QC are defined in the agreed scope, with inspection hold points and records established before work starts. Independent CQA or specialist testing is included where specified and appointed for the project.
Send the BOQ, drawings, quantities, location and required programme. The proposal identifies materials, delivery, installation responsibilities and handover documents so the project team can review one clear scope.
Design Inputs for Coastal Protection
Confirm the design inputs: waves, currents, water depth, foundation and scour, fill material, installation method, anchorage and environmental requirements. The project designer sets the system arrangement and acceptance criteria.

Confirm interfaces, joints, connections and transitions on the drawings. Adjacent products must be compatible with the selected system; proposed substitutions require designer approval.
Use current manufacturer data for the exact grade and the relevant service conditions. Generic thicknesses, tensile ratings or service-life claims do not establish suitability for every project.
Plan access, sequencing, storage, protection and covering around the project programme. Identify the inspection stages that must be completed before work proceeds.
Coastal Protection Installation & Handover
Before installation, confirm the product and grade, accept the work area and inspect delivered material. Establish storage, handling, layout and protection requirements using the approved method and manufacturer guidance.
Inspect delivered fabric systems, seams, fill or ballast, connections and installation records against the approved coastal method. Silt-curtain deployment is checked for the specified class, skirt and anchoring arrangement; structural sand-container works follow the separate coastal design.
Record installation checks, test results where required, repairs and hold-point releases. Protect completed work until acceptance and compile the agreed traceability and handover records.
Sequence installation, covering and site access so completed work is protected. Changes to the agreed method or product are reviewed with the responsible designer and project team.

Coastal Protection QA/QC
Approved Design & QA/QC Plan
Confirm the approved drawings, product schedule, method and inspection hold points. Testing and acceptance criteria are agreed before installation.
Product Identity & Traceability
Check manufacturer, product grade, roll or unit identification and the required documentation against the order and approved submittals. Record damage or discrepancies for resolution.
Work-Area Acceptance
Inspect the prepared work area, levels and interfaces against the specified acceptance criteria before placing the system. Required geotechnical verification is completed by the appointed party.
Installation Inspection
Inspect delivered fabric systems, seams, fill or ballast, connections and installation records against the approved coastal method. Silt-curtain deployment is checked for the specified class, skirt and anchoring arrangement; structural sand-container works follow the separate coastal design.
Specified Testing
Apply the test methods and frequencies specified for this system. Specialist or independent testing is provided where required by the project appointment; a method suitable for one material is not automatically suitable for another.
Handover Records
Compile the agreed product identification, inspection records, applicable test results, repairs and as-built information for project handover.
