Integrated Manufacturer & IAGI-Aligned Standard · Best-in-Class Delivery

One Integrated Standard. Built to Guarantee Installation Success.

Most geosynthetic companies follow either a manufacturer's installation guide or a general industry standard. Geosynthetics Africa follows both - simultaneously, on every project. Our integrated QA methodology combines the manufacturer-specific installation requirements of Solmax, Eurobent, Tensar, and Tiltex with the IAGI geosynthetic installation QA framework into a single, documented delivery standard. The result is a quality system that does not just comply with specifications - it is engineered to guarantee installation success and consistently meet or exceed the expectations of engineers, owners, and regulators across Africa.

Overview

Geosynthetics Africa combines applicable manufacturer guidance, project specifications and documented QA/QC procedures to control installation quality. Inspection, testing, material traceability and handover records are defined by the agreed project scope.

Manufacturer QA - Product-Specific Precision

Every geosynthetic system we install is governed by the manufacturer's own installation QA standard. GSE® / Solmax geomembranes follow the Solmax IQA Manual. Eurobent® GCLs follow Eurobent installation guidelines. Tensar® geogrids follow Tensar installation requirements. This means the product is installed exactly as the manufacturer designed it to be - with factory-trained technicians, correct equipment, and documented compliance.

IAGI Guidelines - International Installation Framework

As an IAGI Installer Member, every project we deliver is also governed by the IAGI geosynthetic installation QA framework - the internationally recognised standard for installation procedures, site documentation, seam testing protocols, and project execution quality. This provides the overarching installation framework within which the manufacturer standard operates.

Where the Two Standards Intersect - Our Integrated Methodology

Where manufacturer requirements and IAGI guidelines overlap, we apply the more stringent requirement. Where they complement each other, we apply both. The result is an integrated delivery methodology that covers every stage of installation - from material receiving to final handover - under a dual-verified quality framework that no single standard alone can provide.

Built to Guarantee Installation Success

Our integrated QA methodology is not designed to achieve minimum compliance. It is engineered to eliminate the conditions under which geosynthetic installations fail - unchecked materials, untested seams, uninspected subgrades, undocumented defects, and incomplete handover. Every stage of our process addresses a known failure mode. Every stage is documented. Every stage is signed off.

Consistent Across Every Project, Country, and System

The integrated standard applies equally to a 500m² fish pond in Zambia and a 500,000m² tailings storage facility in the DRC. Project size, location, and client type do not change the standard. The methodology, the documentation, and the handover dossier are the same - because installation failure does not scale with project size.

A Handover Dossier That Proves It

Every project closes with a complete, signed handover dossier that documents compliance with both the manufacturer installation standard and the IAGI QA framework. As-built drawings, seam test logs, material certificates, repair records, subgrade acceptance forms, trial weld logs, and a signed conformance statement - the full evidentiary record that your system was installed to a standard that meets or exceeds specification.

QA Framework

Why an Integrated Standard Delivers What Neither Standard Alone Can Guarantee

Manufacturer installation standards are product-specific - they define exactly how a particular geomembrane, GCL, or geogrid must be handled, deployed, welded, and tested to perform as designed. They are authoritative on the product. They are silent on the broader installation environment. IAGI installation guidelines are system-specific - they define the overall quality framework for geosynthetic installation: subgrade acceptance, documentation protocols, site supervision requirements, and project closeout standards. They are authoritative on the process. They defer to manufacturers on product-specific technical requirements. Neither standard alone covers everything. Together, they cover everything. Geosynthetics Africa's integrated QA methodology applies both simultaneously on every project. Manufacturer requirements govern how the product is handled, deployed, and welded. IAGI guidelines govern how the installation is planned, supervised, tested, and documented. Where requirements overlap, the more stringent applies. Where they complement, both apply. The outcome is an installation quality system that does not just satisfy the specification - it eliminates the known causes of geosynthetic installation failure before they can occur.

The Integrated QA Methodology - Applied Stage by Stage

01

Material Receiving - Manufacturer Standard + IAGI Inventory Protocol

Every material received on site is verified against both the manufacturer's conformance requirements - mill certificates, batch numbers, product datasheets - and the IAGI inventory checklist protocol. Roll numbers are logged, cross-referenced with the Bill of Lading, and signed off before any material enters the installation area. Manufacturer: product compliance. IAGI: receiving documentation. Both applied simultaneously.

02

Subgrade Acceptance - IAGI Framework + Project Specification

Subgrade inspection and formal acceptance follows the IAGI subgrade acceptance protocol — signed by the Geosynthetics Africa site manager and the owner or earthworks contractor before any panel is deployed. Subgrade requirements are verified against the project specification and the manufacturer's deployment guidelines. No geomembrane, GCL, or geogrid is placed on an uninspected or unsigned subgrade.

03

Trial Welds - Manufacturer Pass/Fail Criteria + IAGI Logging Protocol

Trial welds are performed before every shift, after every power interruption, and after every equipment change - in accordance with IAGI guidelines. Pass/fail criteria - peel and shear strength values - are taken from the manufacturer's IQA manual for the specific product and thickness being installed. The IAGI protocol defines when to test. The manufacturer standard defines what passing looks like.

04

Production Welding - Manufacturer Parameters + IAGI Seam Logging

All production seams are executed to manufacturer welding parameters - temperature, speed, pressure - specific to the product being installed. Seam logging follows the IAGI seam log format: seam number, machine number, technician ID, date, time, and weld conditions. Manufacturer standard governs how the weld is made. IAGI protocol governs how it is recorded.

05

Seam Testing - Manufacturer Acceptance Values + IAGI Testing Protocols

Non-destructive testing follows IAGI protocols - air pressure testing for fusion seams, vacuum box testing for extrusion welds, spark testing for penetrations. Acceptance values for destructive coupon testing - minimum peel and shear strength by product and thickness - are taken from the manufacturer's IQA manual. Every test result is logged. No seam is covered until it passes both standards.

06

Defect Repair - Manufacturer Repair Methods + IAGI Documentation

All defects are repaired using manufacturer-approved methods - patching, extrusion bead, capping, or reweld - specific to the product type. Repair identification, numbering, and logging follows the IAGI repair log protocol. Every repair is retested before covering. The site manager conducts a final walkthrough - in accordance with IAGI closeout requirements - before any cover material is placed.

07

Handover Dossier - Dual-Standard Documentation Package

The project handover dossier documents compliance with both standards simultaneously. It includes as-built drawings with manufacturer roll-to-panel traceability, all IAGI-format test logs (seam, trial weld, destructive, non-destructive, repair), manufacturer mill certificates and conformance statements, and a Geosynthetics Africa signed conformance declaration confirming the installation was executed in accordance with both the applicable manufacturer installation standard and the IAGI geosynthetic installation QA framework.

The Only Measure That Matters: Zero Liner Failures on Record

Quality assurance frameworks are only meaningful if they produce a measurable outcome. Ours does. Across 100+ projects in 30+ African countries - tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, landfill liners, water reservoirs, canal systems, and agricultural dams - Geosynthetics Africa has not recorded a single liner failure attributable to installation defect. That is not a claim. It is the documented outcome of a quality system that was built to prevent installation failure - not merely to detect it after the fact. The integrated manufacturer and IAGI-aligned standard is the reason. The handover dossier on every project is the proof.
