Bioengineering & Revegetation
Natural-fibre erosion control blankets that hold soil and seed in place while vegetation takes over. We supply and install jute, coir, straw and wood wool SoilLock blankets for mine rehabilitation, river banks, road cuttings and embankments across Africa.
Service Overview
Bare soil on a new slope, river bank or rehabilitated mine site is most vulnerable before vegetation establishes. Rain splash and runoff strip away topsoil and seed, and small rills quickly become gullies. Bioengineering uses natural-fibre erosion control blankets to protect the surface through that window, then lets the vegetation do the long-term work.
We supply four SoilLock blankets for this. Jute SoilLock 292 suits moderate slopes and fast establishment. Coir SoilLock comes in a 350 g/m² civil grade and a 450 g/m² mining grade for steep, high-runoff slopes and tailings dams. Straw SoilLock 300 gives short-term cover on gentle slopes, and EnviroWool SoilLock 440 is a wood wool blanket. All are made from natural fibres and break down in place once vegetation has taken hold.
Our crews prepare the surface, cut anchor trenches at the crest, then lay, overlap and pin the blankets so they stay in full contact with the soil. Seed and topsoil are placed to your rehabilitation specification. We also supply material only, as we did for 210,000 m² of Jute SoilLock 292 on a river-rehabilitation programme in Zimbabwe.
Why Choose Geosynthetics Africa for Bioengineering?
Four Natural-Fibre Options
Jute, coir, straw and wood wool, so the blanket matches the slope, the runoff and how long protection is needed.
Proven at Scale
210,000 m² of Jute SoilLock 292 supplied for a single river-rehabilitation programme in Zimbabwe.
Supply Only or Supply and Install
Blankets on their own, or laid and anchored by our own crews as part of a wider erosion-control package.
Documented Supply
Mill certificates with every consignment, and complete paperwork for cross-border delivery.
What Our Bioengineering Service Covers
Jute SoilLock 292
292 g/m² open-weave jute, 10 × 10 mm aperture. 1.22 m × 100 m jumbo rolls (122 m²) or 1.22 m × 50 m rolls.
Coir SoilLock
Coconut fibre in a 350 g/m² civil grade and a 450 g/m² mining grade for steep, high-runoff slopes and tailings dams.
Straw SoilLock 300
300 g/m² straw blanket for short-term cover on gentle slopes.
EnviroWool SoilLock 440
440 g/m² wood wool erosion control blanket.
Blanket Selection
Fibre and mass matched to slope angle, runoff and the time vegetation needs to establish.
Installation
Surface preparation, crest anchor trenches, overlaps and pinning so the blanket stays in contact with the soil.
Supplied Across Africa
Natural-fibre blankets are light and roll-packed, so large areas travel as compact freight by road or sea. Jute jumbo rolls are placed by hand, with no forklift needed on site.
- Stock held in South Africa for regional dispatch
- Jumbo rolls cut joints and labour on large areas
- Mill certificates and export paperwork with every consignment
- Cross-border road freight coordinated to site
