GeoDrain LD 420 – 700 kN/m² Cuspated Leak Detection Core for Double Liner Systems
GeoDrain LD 420 is a single cuspated polyolefin core installed between primary and secondary geomembranes for leak detection and leachate transmission. Rated 700 kN/m² with 4.9mm thickness at 2 kPa and the highest in-plane flow in the range at working loads up to 200 kPa. CE certified to EN 13252 and supplied in 2.35–4.7m × 60m rolls.
Overview
GeoDrain LD 420 - Leakage Detection & Gas Venting Core for Double Liner Systems
GeoDrain LD 420 is built for double liner landfill and TSF sections where loads are moderate and the priority is dependable leakage detection and gas venting performance at a competitive installed cost per square metre. It's a single-cuspated HDPE core designed to sit between two geomembrane liners, providing an open flow path that carries leak fluid or vented gas laterally to a collection or vent point, while keeping both liners in smooth, even contact across the full sheet.
Compression resistance is rated to 700 kN/m2, tested to peak resistance. CBR puncture resistance is 300N, with a tensile strength of 2.5 kN/m (machine direction) / 1 kN/m (cross machine direction) and a strain at break of 65%/40%, giving good workability during placement on slopes and batters. In-plane flow performance is strong across all tested loads, from 0.70 l/m.s at low load up to 2.20 l/m.s at gradient 1, still carrying flow at higher loads. LD 420 is also supplied in the longest standard roll length in the range at 60m, reducing the number of overlaps and seams per lined area on large landfill and TSF footprints.
Typical applications: leakage detection layer on double liner landfill and TSF sections, ponds and secondary containment areas, and gas venting layers beneath geomembrane liners where roll length efficiency matters on large footprints.

Typical Applications
View all applicationsLandfill Leak Detection Systems
GeoDrain LD cuspated cores provide the leak detection drainage layer between primary and secondary geomembranes in municipal solid waste, industrial waste and hazardous waste landfill cells. Leachate passing through the primary liner transmits in-plane to collection sumps where flow rate is monitored for liner integrity assessment.
Containment Bund Lining Systems
Industrial containment bunds for chemical storage, fuel storage and process facilities require a leak detection layer between double geomembrane liners. GeoDrain LD provides the drainage core at compressive strengths matched to the bund loading and fluid chemistry requirements.
Tailings Storage Facilities
Tailings storage facilities impose high and sustained overburden loads on lining system components. The GeoDrain LD 700 at 1300 kN/m2 with confirmed 100-year creep performance to ASTM D 7361 is specified for TSF leak detection layers where long-term load retention is a regulatory and design requirement.
Dam and Reservoir Lining Systems
Water storage dams and lined reservoirs use GeoDrain LD sheets as the drainage and leak detection layer beneath the primary geomembrane liner. The smooth cuspated interface protects the liner from subgrade contact damage while providing a drainage path for any seepage to monitoring points.

The LD 420 is a single cuspated polyolefin mix drainage core at 700 kN/m2 compressive strength for leak detection applications in standard landfill cells and containment systems. Installed between primary and secondary geomembranes, it transmits leachate flow in-plane to collection points while maintaining a smooth interface against both membrane faces. Roll width 2.35m to 4.7m, roll length 60m. CE certified to EN 13252.
GeoDrain LD 500 - High-Load Leak Detection Core
The LD 500 is a single cuspated polyolefin mix drainage core at 1000 kN/m2 compressive strength for intermediate to high-load landfill cells and containment bunds. High Pressure OIT above 600 minutes confirms antioxidant retention under aggressive leachate conditions. Retained thickness of 92.89% at 200 kPa over a 100-year design life. Roll width 2.35m to 4.7m, roll length 55m. CE certified to EN 13252.

Installation Guidance
Standard Method Statement
Subgrade and Liner Preparation - The geomembrane surface receiving the GeoDrain LD sheet must be inspected and accepted before installation. Remove any debris, aggregate or projections that could damage the cuspated core or the geomembrane interface. Install only after primary geomembrane welding and testing is complete.
Roll Placement and Orientation - Unroll GeoDrain LD sheets in the machine direction with the cuspated core face down against the primary geomembrane. Avoid dragging rolls across the geomembrane surface. On slopes, anchor the top edge before unrolling downslope to prevent sheet movement under self-weight.
Overlaps and Joins - Overlap adjacent sheet edges by a minimum of 300mm. Ensure overlaps are consistent and that no gap exists in the drainage plane between geomembranes. Do not weld or heat-bond the cuspated core - overlaps are maintained by the weight of the overlying geomembrane and overburden.
Secondary Geomembrane Placement - Place the secondary geomembrane directly over the GeoDrain LD sheet. The smooth cuspated surface provides a stable low-damage interface for geomembrane deployment and welding. Do not rest welding equipment directly on the cuspated core - use bridging boards at weld locations if required.
UV Protection and Cover - Cover GeoDrain LD sheets within 28 days of installation. Place the next lining system layer as soon as practicable after secondary geomembrane acceptance. Do not stockpile heavy equipment or materials directly on the installed drainage layer before adequate cover is in place.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Field QA/QC Checklist
