GeoDrain LD 500 – 1000 kN/m² Cuspated Leak Detection Core for Double Liner Systems
GeoDrain LD 500 is a single cuspated polyolefin core for leak detection and leachate transmission in intermediate-load landfill cells and containment bunds. Rated 1000 kN/m², it retains 1.70 l/m·s in-plane flow at 500 kPa - the highest sustained flow under load in the range. High Pressure OIT above 600 minutes. CE certified to EN 13252, 2.35–4.7m × 55m rolls.
Overview
GeoDrain LD 500 - Leakage Detection & Gas Venting Core for Double Liner Landfill and TSF Systems
GeoDrain LD 500 covers the load range most double liner projects fall into: strong enough for real fill loads and long design lives, matched to the compressive demands of standard landfill and TSF construction. As a single-cuspated HDPE core, it's built to function as a leakage detection layer between two geomembranes, channelling any breakthrough fluid to a monitoring sump, and can also serve as a gas venting layer beneath a liner where gas migration control is required.
Compression resistance is rated to 1000 kN/m2, covering the load range of most landfill, TSF, and dam containment designs. Retained thickness of 92.89% at 200 kPa over a 100-year design life, with a low reduction-creep factor of 1.092, means flow capacity for leakage detection and gas venting is maintained well beyond the initial installation. CBR puncture resistance of 300N gives reliable performance against subgrade irregularities and stone impact during placement, and High Pressure OIT above 600 minutes supports long-term oxidative stability in a buried, low-oxygen environment. In-plane flow is maintained across the full load range, from 0.60 l/m.s at low load up to 2.10 l/m.s, still carrying 0.54 l/m.s under 500 kPa load.
Typical applications: leakage detection layer between primary and secondary liners on landfills and TSFs, double liner containment cells, lined dams, and gas venting layers beneath geomembrane liners on general containment structures.

Typical Applications
View all applicationsLandfill Leak Detection Systems
GeoDrain LD cuspated cores provide the leak detection drainage layer between primary and secondary geomembranes in municipal solid waste, industrial waste and hazardous waste landfill cells. Leachate passing through the primary liner transmits in-plane to collection sumps where flow rate is monitored for liner integrity assessment.
Containment Bund Lining Systems
Industrial containment bunds for chemical storage, fuel storage and process facilities require a leak detection layer between double geomembrane liners. GeoDrain LD provides the drainage core at compressive strengths matched to the bund loading and fluid chemistry requirements.
Tailings Storage Facilities
Tailings storage facilities impose high and sustained overburden loads on lining system components. The GeoDrain LD 700 at 1300 kN/m2 with confirmed 100-year creep performance to ASTM D 7361 is specified for TSF leak detection layers where long-term load retention is a regulatory and design requirement.
Dam and Reservoir Lining Systems
Water storage dams and lined reservoirs use GeoDrain LD sheets as the drainage and leak detection layer beneath the primary geomembrane liner. The smooth cuspated interface protects the liner from subgrade contact damage while providing a drainage path for any seepage to monitoring points.

Installation Guidance
Standard Method Statement
Subgrade and Liner Preparation - The geomembrane surface receiving the GeoDrain LD sheet must be inspected and accepted before installation. Remove any debris, aggregate or projections that could damage the cuspated core or the geomembrane interface. Install only after primary geomembrane welding and testing is complete.
Roll Placement and Orientation - Unroll GeoDrain LD sheets in the machine direction with the cuspated core face down against the primary geomembrane. Avoid dragging rolls across the geomembrane surface. On slopes, anchor the top edge before unrolling downslope to prevent sheet movement under self-weight.
Overlaps and Joins - Overlap adjacent sheet edges by a minimum of 300mm. Ensure overlaps are consistent and that no gap exists in the drainage plane between geomembranes. Do not weld or heat-bond the cuspated core - overlaps are maintained by the weight of the overlying geomembrane and overburden.
Secondary Geomembrane Placement - Place the secondary geomembrane directly over the GeoDrain LD sheet. The smooth cuspated surface provides a stable low-damage interface for geomembrane deployment and welding. Do not rest welding equipment directly on the cuspated core - use bridging boards at weld locations if required.
UV Protection and Cover - Cover GeoDrain LD sheets within 28 days of installation. Place the next lining system layer as soon as practicable after secondary geomembrane acceptance. Do not stockpile heavy equipment or materials directly on the installed drainage layer before adequate cover is in place.
