EVA Geomembrane Liners - Flexiliner for Concrete Reservoir & Tank Lining
Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) geomembrane lining systems for concrete drinking water reservoirs, enclosed firewater tanks, thickener tanks, process tanks and tunnel liners - where extreme flexibility, cold-temperature performance and tight concrete adhesion are the design requirement. Not for exposed outdoor applications. Supplied and installed across Africa by Geosynthetics Africa in 1.5mm and 2.0mm grades.

Technical Specification of EVA Geomembrane Liners - Flexiliner for Concrete Reservoir & Tank Lining
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) geomembrane is a stabilised co-polymer liner that occupies a distinct position in the geomembrane family - it is not a direct substitute for HDPE and is not intended for open, exposed containment applications. Its value lies in properties that HDPE cannot match: extreme flexibility and elongation, excellent cold-temperature performance down to operating temperatures well below freezing, and a surface chemistry that bonds reliably to concrete substrates. These properties make EVA the correct specification for internal concrete reservoir lining - the application where standard HDPE is too rigid and where the liner must conform intimately to the concrete surface.
The primary application for EVA Flexiliner is internal concrete lining - drinking water reservoirs and potable water storage tanks where the liner is protected from UV exposure by the structure, firewater and emergency water storage tanks, industrial process tanks and thickener tanks in mining and metallurgical facilities, and tunnel waterproofing liners. All of these applications share a common requirement: the liner must perform under continuous water immersion, conform to the concrete geometry, seal at pipe penetrations and concrete joints, and maintain integrity at low ambient temperatures without cracking or delaminating.
Geosynthetics Africa supplies EVA Flexiliner in 1.5mm and 2.0mm grades in 3m wide × 150m rolls - seam-free widths that minimise on-site jointing on large flat floor areas. Site seaming is performed using dual-track hot-wedge welding, producing two fully fused parallel seams with a central pressure-test channel for non-destructive QC verification. Where extrusion welding is required for detail work, repairs or pipe boot connections, compatible EVA extrudate is used. All pipe penetrations, weir connections and concrete anchorage details are executed under our IAGI-aligned installation scope with a full signed QA dossier on completion.

Three Questions To Ask Before You Order
1.Can EVA Flexiliner be used outdoors or on exposed containment?
2.Why specify EVA over HDPE for concrete reservoir lining?
3.Which thickness should I specify - 1.5mm or 2.0mm?
4.How are EVA Flexiliner seams tested?
5.Is EVA Flexiliner safe for potable water contact?
Specification For The Design, Installation Of EVA Geomembrane Liners - Flexiliner for Concrete Reservoir & Tank Lining
The concrete substrate is prepared smooth and firm - all construction joints, tie-rod holes and surface defects filled and all protrusions removed. On all Geosynthetic Africa's EVA Flexiliner installations, the first layer applied to the concrete is the GeoDrain Leak Detection cuspated sheet - a high-compressive-strength (1,000 kN/m²) drainage board that creates a continuous void space between the concrete and the liner system. Any future moisture or seepage migrates through this drainage plane to a designated monitoring point rather than building pressure behind the liner or saturating the concrete structure undetected.
Over the GeoDrain layer, GeoFoil conductive film is laid continuously across the full floor and wall surface. This film enables electrical spark testing (holiday testing) of the completed EVA liner - passing an electrical current across the membrane surface to detect any pinhole, seam defect or discontinuity to within centimetres, without flooding the structure and before commissioning. The EVA Flexiliner panels are then deployed over the GeoFoil, overlapped and seamed by dual hot-wedge welding - producing two fully fused parallel seams with a central air channel for non-destructive pressure testing. Corners, pipe penetrations and weir connections are completed by extrusion welding with compatible EVA extrudate.
On completion, the full liner surface is spark-tested using GeoFoil -every square metre verified before the structure is filled. All seams are additionally verified by air-channel pressure test and destructive peel/shear samples are taken per the project QA plan. Post-commissioning, the GeoDrain drainage layer provides continuous passive leak detection - any future liner breach is channelled to the monitoring point, allowing early detection and targeted repair without draining or decommissioning the full structure. Geosynthetics Africa delivers a complete handover dossier: spark test records, seam log, NDT results, destructive test records and a signed installation certificate.
