BERA Gravel Fix® Pro - Gravel Driveway Stabilisation Grid with Typar Geotextile
Stable, permeable gravel driveways, paths and parking with factory-attached DuPont™ Typar® geotextile. European-made BERA Gravel Fix® Pro reduces gravel movement and sinking. Stock available for quick despatch, with delivery and trained installation support across Africa.
Overview
BERA Gravel Fix® Pro turns loose gravel into a stable, water-permeable surface for residential driveways, commercial car parks, garden paths, terraces, resorts and public landscapes. Its polypropylene honeycomb cells confine the gravel, reducing scatter, rutting and the sinking that makes loose-stone surfaces difficult for wheels, furniture and pedestrians. BERA documents Gravel Fix installations in 47+ countries across five continents.
The gravel grid and its 68 g/m² DuPont™ Typar® geotextile arrive as one factory-assembled component, joined by thermal welding without glue. The attached membrane helps retain gravel, separate it from the bedding and reduce weed growth while allowing water through. Extended geotextile lips overlap beneath adjacent panels, reducing the separate fabric handling needed with grids supplied without a membrane. This integrated panel still requires a properly designed foundation, edging and suitable gravel infill; additional foundation geotextile may be required.
For homeowners, the result is a tidier gravel driveway and more stable garden paths and seating areas. Developers and landscape contractors can create permeable parking and pedestrian surfaces with a consistent finish. For wheelchairs, pushchairs and high heels, BERA recommends well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel. Correct grading, base preparation and ongoing gravel coverage are essential to performance.
The 32 mm panels have a manufacturer-reported empty vertical strength of 120 t/m² in white and 95 t/m² in grey or black. Installed strength is reported above 450 t/m², depending on gravel. These panel values are not allowable vehicle loads: traffic suitability depends on the foundation, ground conditions, infill and construction. Pro, Pro XL and Pro XXL cover approximately 0.9, 1.8 and 2.7 m² per sheet respectively.
BERA publishes Environmental Product Declarations for white and grey Gravel Fix, providing independently verified life-cycle environmental information for specification. The panels are UV and frost resistant and recyclable at end of life. Water permeability supports sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), provided the underlying layers and soil can accommodate rainfall or an appropriate drainage outlet is designed. The stated 180 l/(m²·s) EN ISO 11058 value is a product/geotextile property, not a guaranteed site infiltration rate.

Installation uses a level, compacted foundation suited to the load, restrained edges, overlapping membrane lips and 3-16 mm gravel. Fill to 15-20 mm above the cell walls and maintain coverage through occasional raking and topping up. Source: BERA Gravel Fix Pro brochure SC-GFP-EN-03-25. Typical Applications
View all applicationsGravel Driveways
Stable gravel driveways with cells that confine stone and an attached membrane. Specify the base, edging and expected traffic together.
Car Parks & Parking Areas
Permeable gravel parking for housing estates, offices and hospitality. Foundation and drainage design determine loading and rainfall performance.
Paths, Walkways & Garden Areas
Stable garden paths and terraces. Use well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel for accessible pedestrian routes.
Service Access Routes
For project-specific service access where ground conditions, base and traffic loading suit a gravel pavement.
Roof Terraces & Green Roofing
For project-specific roof gravel surfaces, subject to structural capacity, waterproofing protection and drainage review.
Compatible Systems
View all systemsGravel driveways and parking
For residential driveways and commercial parking where stable gravel and permeability are required. Foundation and traffic suitability must be designed for the site; installed panel strength is not a vehicle-load rating.
Garden paths and terraces
For garden paths, public landscapes and seating areas. Well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel helps wheelchairs, pushchairs and high heels; the attached membrane reduces weeds rather than eliminating maintenance.
Roof terraces and gardens
For project-specific gravel surfaces on roofs. Confirm structural capacity, waterproofing protection and drainage with the appointed designer before use.
Installation Guidance
Standard Method Statement
Prepare and compact a foundation appropriate to soil, drainage and traffic. BERA's general guide uses 100 mm bedding for pedestrian paths, or 150-250 mm crushed-stone foundation plus 40-60 mm bedding for vehicles; review these indicative depths for the site. Fit suitable edging, level the surface and remove sharp debris. Lay panels so the extended Typar lips overlap beneath adjacent sheets, then trim around obstacles. Fill with 3-16 mm gravel to 15-20 mm above the cells; use well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel for accessible paths. Rake evenly and maintain coverage by topping up. Our turnkey installation scope includes agreed foundation checks, material quantities, laying, finish inspection and QA/QC records. Source: BERA SC-GFP-EN-03-25.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Field QA/QC Checklist
- Sub-base Design: Sub-base type and thickness confirmed for the traffic load class, and permeability checked so the system drains as designed.
- Sub-base Compaction: Sub-base compacted and levelled to the falls and tolerance in the BERA installation guide.
- Panel Placement: Panels laid with the geotextile backing down and connected with the integrated click joints; expansion gaps left at edges.
- Infill: Panels filled with the specified infill (gravel grading, or soil and seed for grass systems) and topped up after settlement.
- Handover: Load class and use confirmed with the client; maintenance instructions provided.
