Technical Specification of BERA Gravel Fix® Pro - Gravel Driveway and Parking Grids
BERA Gravel Fix® Pro is a European-made polypropylene honeycomb grid for homeowners, developers and landscapers creating stable gravel driveways, car parks, paths and terraces. The cells help confine gravel and reduce scatter, rutting and sinking compared with uncontained loose stone. BERA documents Gravel Fix installations in 47+ countries across five continents.
The 32 mm grid arrives with 68 g/m² DuPont™ Typar® geotextile thermally attached without glue. Overlapping membrane lips help separate and retain gravel while allowing water through and reducing weeds. Compared with a grid supplied without fabric, the combined panel reduces separate membrane handling. Foundation geotextile, edging and infill remain part of the site-specific system.
Manufacturer-reported vertical strength is 120 t/m² empty in white, 95 t/m² in grey/black and above 450 t/m² installed, depending on gravel. These are panel properties, not permissible vehicle loads. Base preparation, drainage, gravel grading and expected traffic must be considered together. Use well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel for wheelchairs, pushchairs and high heels.
Published EPDs for white and grey Gravel Fix provide independently verified life-cycle environmental data. UV and frost resistance and recyclability support durable landscape specifications. Permeable construction can contribute to sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) when the foundation and soil or drainage outlet are designed for rainfall. Specification For The Design, Installation Of BERA Gravel Fix® Pro - Gravel Driveway and Parking Grids
Prepare and compact a foundation appropriate to soil, drainage and traffic. BERA's general guide uses 100 mm bedding for pedestrian paths, or 150-250 mm crushed-stone foundation plus 40-60 mm bedding for vehicles; review these indicative depths for the site. Fit suitable edging, level the surface and remove sharp debris. Lay panels so the extended Typar lips overlap beneath adjacent sheets, then trim around obstacles. Fill with 3-16 mm gravel to 15-20 mm above the cells; use well-compacted 3-6 mm gravel for accessible paths. Rake evenly and maintain coverage by topping up.
