Technical Specification of BERA® Stable Fix Eco - Interlocking Gravel and Grass Paving Grids

BERA® Stable Fix Eco is a recycled-polymer interlocking grid for homeowners, developers and contractors creating gravel or grass driveways, parking, service routes and equestrian areas. Cells confine infill and connected panels help resist movement, addressing loose-gravel displacement and vulnerable unreinforced ground.

Five models share a 500 x 500 mm panel format, covering 0.25 m² each. The 40L, 40 and 40HD models are 40 mm deep; 50 and 50HD are 50 mm deep. Model selection considers traffic, ground, drainage, infill and foundation design, rather than panel strength alone. BERA's pre-assembled 1 m² layers simplify laying.

BERA's February 2026 brochure reports empty strength under ISO 844 from up to 250 t/m² for 40L to up to 650 t/m² for 50HD. Gravel-filled values range from up to 650 to up to 1,400 t/m², depending on filling and compaction. SF-ECO-40 is up to 350 empty/900 filled; SF-ECO-50 is up to 400 empty/1,000 filled. These are test values, not allowable vehicle loads.

Open cells allow water into a suitable foundation, supporting site-designed sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). Recycled polypropylene/polyethylene, UV and frost resistance and recyclability support landscape specifications. Stable Fix has no attached Typar membrane; we specify separate geotextile, edging and infill as needed. Geosynthetics Africa combines stock, logistics, trained installation support and QA/QC in a turnkey scope. Request the applicable product-specific EPD for sustainability submissions.

Three Questions To Ask Before You Order

1.Can Stable Fix Eco reduce mud in paddocks and yards?
The cellular grid confines fill and supports a reinforced surface, helping address vulnerable unreinforced ground. It does not guarantee mud-free conditions: review drainage, foundation, infill and suitability for animals, hoof traffic and vehicles.
2.Which Stable Fix model should I choose?
SF-ECO-40 and 50 provide 40 and 50 mm depth. Their brochure maxima are 350/900 and 400/1,000 t/m² empty/gravel-filled respectively. Choose the model with the designer based on traffic, ground, infill and drainage. Higher HD values must not be assigned to standard models.
3.Should I use grass or gravel infill?
BERA specifies gravel or angular stone 3-20 mm for aggregate finishes. For grass it gives a 40/30/30% sand, peat and soil mix with locally suitable drought-tolerant grass. Confirm the finish for the activity and allow grass to establish before vehicle use.
4.Is it automatically suitable for aircraft or heavy trucks?
No. BERA lists aviation and heavy-use applications, but a panel compression test alone does not establish suitability for a particular aircraft or truck. Obtain project-specific pavement and geotechnical design, including drainage and operational requirements.
5.Does Stable Fix Eco come with attached Typar geotextile?
No. The open grids require separate foundation geotextile where specified. BERA's indicative foundation uses 300-500 g/m² nonwoven separation layers with compacted aggregate and 10-20 mm bedding. Design depth for site soil, drainage and traffic.
6.Do you offer stock and turnkey installation across Africa?
Geosynthetics Africa supplies stock for quick despatch, delivery across Africa and trained installation support. We can quote grids, separate geotextile, edging, logistics, installation and QA/QC as one scope. Stock and lead times are confirmed for the selected model.

Specification For The Design, Installation Of BERA® Stable Fix Eco - Interlocking Gravel and Grass Paving Grids

BERA® Stable Fix Eco installation requires no specialist tools for sheet laying. The critical requirement is a correctly layered and compacted foundation with geotextile separation. All installation must follow the BERA® Stable Fix Eco laying instructions and project-specific engineering requirements.

Foundation Place a 300-500 g/m² non-woven geotextile over the subsoil for layer separation. Prepare a 20-40 cm lower compacted base layer of crushed stone 31.5-63 mm ensuring permeability and strength. Prepare a 5-20 cm upper compacted base layer of crushed stone 12-31.5 mm ensuring permeability and strength. Place a second 300-500 g/m² non-woven geotextile for layer separation. Foundation requirements depend on soil type and expected load - consult a specialist.

Base Preparation Apply a 1-2 cm layer of levelled and compacted builders' angular sand over the upper geotextile. Level in temperatures above 3°C. Install edging to prevent shifting - Specify suitable BERA edging and stakes separately. Leave at least 5 cm expansion gap between the grid and all fixed elements for thermal movement.

Sheet Installation Lay BERA® Stable Fix Eco sheets - no tools needed. Pallets come pre-layered (1 m² = 4 sheets). Position pallets near the work area for faster handling. For slopes, consider extra anchoring. Trim with a grinder or circular saw if required. Light compaction may be applied after installation.

Filling with Grass Choose drought-tolerant grass suited to local African climate. Fill sheets with a 40/30/30% mix of sand, peat and soil, then water thoroughly. Sow seeds, fertilise and maintain with regular watering and mowing. Allow grass to establish through several cuts before driving on it. Expect natural settling of approximately 1 cm, creating room for healthy grass growth.

ALTERNATIVELY: Filling with Gravel Use angular split or gravel 3-20 mm. Compact thoroughly to fill all cavities evenly and ensure surface stability.
